It appears that Carmelo Anthony will be leaving the Denver Nuggets a year earlier than planned. After constant rumors this off season about his departure once his contract is up next year, it seems that a trade will happen soon as talks between Anthony and the team have deteriorated their relationship faster than expected.
A front-office executive for the Nuggets told the press that “It is almost a given They’re going to move him.” And other teams are already moving in on the third leading scorer from last year. The Clippers, Nets, Golden State, and Houston are all showing interest in trading for Carmelo.
But as for one of the most interesting scenarios (and from my point of view, the most likely), the New York Knicks could be a great destination for the All-Star forward. With Mike D’Antoni looking to have a offensively explosive team, Carmelo would fit in perfectly. And after adding Amar’e Stoudemire this offseason, Anthony could be the last piece to make the Knicks a top four or five team in the Eastern Conference. Expect the Knicks to go hard for Carmelo, using Eddy Curry’s expiring contract and young assets such as Danilo Gallinari and Wilson Chandler to temp the Nuggets.
One things for sure, without Carmelo, the Nuggets will surely fall a few spots in the West. But in this mostly unexpected turn of events, the team that picks him up will likely become the newest team to watch out for.
